GLOBAL GAME JAM

HK 2018

CAMPAIGN BRANDING AND GRAPHIC DESIGN

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is organising the Global Game Jam Hong Kong every year, and it is a tradition
that the graphic design project is opened for pitching for students in the game design program. I am so lucky to have
got the opportunity of this project.
LOGO DESIGN
As I was doing the design, I set the main concept to be fire and burning. Collaboration is like chemical reactions,

creating things that are totally different but amazing and innovative. Burning is an exothermic chemical reaction and
the hear is conductive, just like the Global Game Jam, exotic and participants are mutually inspiring as they interact.
Burning is also experimental, it may destroy everything but sometimes you get break throughs. We would not have
all sorts of amazing food, grilled, fried or steamed if there wasn't anyone trying.
This year is the 6th year of the event, so the fire is presented in the form of number 6.

Again there were a few iterations before the final design has been made. At first I was planning for more geometrical
style since the game jam is focused on digital games, which is so precise. Yet the geometric style was not expressive
enough and then I tried on more different vector styles, which were not clean and like they were in the middle of no
where. Eventually I decided to use a more organic style since I think even though it is a digital game jam, still the
most important element is the people joining the game jam. The last logo shown is the final version of the logo.
POSTERS DESIGN
Since there would be a lot of logos from the supporting organisations to be put on the final poster, it would be very

hard for the poster to look nice due to the fact that each logos have different colour and the poster will end up with a

lot of un-matching colours plus some of the logos are either black or white, a flat colour cannot cater the variety of

colours of those logos. Hence, I have tried to minimise the diversity and portion of colours other than black.
The biggest poster shown was the final version of the poster without the logos.
